Detoxing
Bad gut health is usually the result of, to put it very quickly and frankly, bad toxins being absorbed into your blood stream and body. This is generally referred to as toxicity we are exposed to thousands of toxins daily through the air we breathe in, foods we consume, the water we drink and clean in not to mention the beauty products we use, household cleaning products and so forth.
Studies have shown that there are between 400 and 800 toxic metal and chemical residues stored in our bodies – accumulating in our fat cells, in our major organs such as the liver, kidneys and brain, thyroids and throughout our central nervous system.
A lot of people are unknowingly are being effect by both environmental and chemical toxins in daily life through products they are using without knowing the dangers, such as toothpaste, shampoo, deodorants, paint, households cleaning products, car fumes, petrol. A lot of the environmental products are unfortunately unavailable especially for those living in major cities. However, in terms of the chemical toxins found mainly through our beauty and household products can be easily changed, we are learning to read the labels of the food we eat its exactly the same with the products we use.
There are plenty of websites, blogs and apps that look into clean and safe products. I have mentioned in another post I use an app called YUKA, super easy all you have to do is swipe the barcode. So please make the effort to really about the products your using and putting into your body its really so important to your long-term health.
Accumulation of these toxin chemicals and metals result in our bodies not being able to produce essential minerals such as iron, calcium and magnesium causing enzyme dysfunction hormonal imbalances, neurological disorders leading to auto immune disorders and other debilitating chronic conditions.
General causes of toxicity:
Sugar
Poor quality fats
Poor quality vegetable and animal fats
Lack of antioxidant vitamins and minerals
Lack of movement
Stress
Drugs
It’s important for us to help look after our bodies internally cleansing, left unattended, our bodies can experience the toxic overload.
If you experience any of the following symptoms, then a detox maybe for you:
Fatigue & low energy
Irritability & mood swings
Immune weakness
Chronic Constipation
Headaches & Migraines
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Gas & Bloating
Skin Problems, rashes, acne
Sinus Congestion
Insomnia, sleepiness
Dizziness
Muscle and joint pain
To reduce the bodies, load of toxins, we can take it into our own hands and try to minimize exposures by choices we make in terms of what we eat, drink and what products we use and consume.
Detoxing is a diet and lifestyle change in order to reduce toxins within the body. Avoidance of chemical and toxins like refined sugar, sugar, alcohol, nicotine, prescription drugs.
There are many of different forms of detox’s including:
Juice Fast and Cleanse
Water fast – this can be a very extreme form of detoxing which I wouldn’t start with if you have never detoxed previously.
Colon Cleanse
Colonic and enemas
However, it is very important to pick the right cleanse for your constitution and current condition. If you can have any concerns or confusion which cleanse is right for you please contact a health practitioner.
How does a detox effect our bodies:
· Liver – responsible of cleansing the blood of poisonous substances (alcohol being an important one) which would otherwise build up in the bloodstream.
Kidneys – Prime function is to filter the blood, removing and waste products. They also deal with the waste management.
Intestines – Solid waste management organs
Lungs – Transfer the oxygen from the blood to the brain
Skin - Is the protective barrier between the internal organs and the environment
A good detox will aim these systems of the body. It is done by taking the load off these organs so they can function at optimal levels, ridding the body of stored toxicity.
Post detox, make sure to remain to nourish your body full of goodness in the right way!
